Parts that we use Transformer suppliers Transformers form the building block of every valve amp, needed both to supply the high voltages necessary for valve operation and to interface the power valves to your speakers. As such, they dictate the overall tone of the amp. We can source transformers from a huge range of suppliers, so we can use these to tailor an amp to your precise needs. Many companies now produce recreations of original vintage transformers giving us tremendous choice of units for one specific amp, and we are more than happy to discuss their relative merits depending on your own needs. Sozo Capacitors Used in our classic British design recreations, they are modelled on the famous "Mustard" caps found in the original British amps of yore. Mustard caps are now no longer sold, and much searching has been done to find a product worthy to replace them. In our opinion, Sozo have done this. Hence when you need that original classic sound, Sozos are one of the ingredients we use to give you that sound. Mallory 150 Capacitors Similar to Sozos, but with a slightly different, edgier character. Used in more modern, higher gain designs, they keep the tone nice and clear. Sprague 716P "Orange Drops" Another classic capacitor, they best fit clean channels and classic Fender type designs, where they give a crisp top end, but not at the expense of a solid low end. All in all a vital ingredient for that shimmery clean sound. F&T Capacitors Every amp needs electrolytic capacitors to smooth the power supply, otherwise you'd never hear your guitar over 100Hz mains hum. F&T are a German brand who have been making capacitors for decades, and their consistently high manufacturing standards make them perfect for use in our amps. Metal film resistors We use metal film resistors as standard throughout our amps. Compared to carbon composition or even carbon film items, metal film resistors offer a noticably reduced noise floor, meaning less hiss from your amp. Some people feel that carbon composition resistors add a slight touch to the tone of an amp, so are available on request. |
